WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE WITH YOUR NAKED EYES...

Why You Should Never Believe Everything You See With Your Naked Eyes…

You are walking down a busy street in a busy town; suddenly, you come across a naked man, or an old woman, or a child wrapped with a snake around their neck, or something worse, and making a huge spectacle of themselves. Maybe you are in Nigeria, where as they do, you immediately brand the people you see as mad, and attribute their condition to the act of witchcraft, or call the people themselves a witch, or a wizard. Then maybe, you take some steps further by snapping pictures or videos with your phone, and sending them to all your friends on Facebook or whatsapp.

Such was the incident on a Kenyan street this week in Mombasa. The citizens of the touristic coastal region of Kenya woke up to see a drama unfolding on one of their streets. Two men had stripped themselves naked on the street, bathing and drinking from a puddle of filthy street water, with one of them wearing a snake around his neck. They had both emerged from a parked car and the other one carried a laptop as if he was surfing the Internet.

Passersby soon began to gather around them, and the story started to emerge that these men had stolen a car, and that the owner of the car had consulted a witch doctor, who had cast a spell on the thieves, causing them to return the car to where it had been stolen from, but also making them to run mad on the street in confession of their crime. Kenyans began taking pictures and videos with their cell phones to post on social media, and TV stations suspended their regular programs to report the “Breaking News”. Kenya, which had been immersed in the news of their problematic elections and a controversial Supreme Court decision, was now engulfed with a different kind of news.

Some Kenyan Christians could be heard on TV interviews casting doubts on their faith, as it seemed to them that they would have to go in search of a witch doctor the next time something is stolen from them, instead of taking it to God in prayer. Many Kenyans likened the drama they were seeing unfold on their street to Nigeria’s nollywood films where scenes like what they were watching on their street, were usually scripted and acted by professional actors.

Well, as it turned out, that drama in broad day light was actually stage managed, but instead of it being a Nigerian nollywood production, or a Kenyan equivalent, it was managed by fake witch doctors who were trying to take upper hands in Kenya’s witchcraft business that has been dominating Mombasa for several years. The witch doctors were exposed by a hidden closed circuit television which captured their acts from the moment they parked a stolen vehicle on a popular street, and placed all their characters in position to begin their drama.

Mombasa police arrested the two fake car thieves, and two other men who had began to capitalize on the public attention that had risen from the bizarre scene that they created on the street. The witch doctor had taken the two car thieves to his shrine to supposedly cleanse them from their curse, with newsmen and television cameras tagging along to continue their Breaking News coverage. With a huge banner and phone number of the witch doctor’s practice on a background wall, the thieves were supposedly cleansed in a fake ritual, but police arrived with their CCTV evidence and carted the four culprits to jail.
